Two bulls purchased at Limousin Society sales were the sires of the top-priced heifers at the Commercial Breeding Heifer show and sale held in Castleisland mart on the 28th April 2021. A good entry of very good heifers met with a brisk trade.
Presale judge was Castleisland native and distinguished breeder Sean O’Sullivan of the highly regarded Castleview Pedigree Limousin herd. The name Castleview is synonymous in livestock circles, bulls bareing the prefix have left their mark in herds all over Ireland, bulls produced in Castleview include Castleview Gazelle – ZAG, Castleview Casino – CWI and Castleview Gringo – GWO.

The sire of the both the first and third prize winners was Coraghy Mischief, purchased for €3,500 at the Show and Sale in Athenry sale in 2018, Mischief won first prize in the presale show in Athenry and was purchased by William Jennings, Ballineen, Co. Cork. Mischief has Ampertaine Gigolo, On-Dit and Ionesco in his sire stack. This multi-starred bull was bred in Clones, Co. Monaghan by Thomas O’Harte.
William Jennings presented the first prize winning heifer, a June 2019 daughter of Mischief. This heifer weighed 536kg and sold for €1,700 or €3,17/kg. Her stable mate and also a daughter of Mischief was placed third and sold for €1,380, she weighed 558kg.
Judge Sean O’Sullivan picked a June 2019 daughter of Corcamore Lennox as his second prize winner. The heifer weighed 522kg and sold for €1,700 or €3.26/kg. She was bred by John O’Connor, Lisselton, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Her sire Corcamore Lennox was purchased at the May 2017 Premier sale for €3,000. Lennox has Roundhill Saturn, Ramses and Tatar B in his sire stack, Lennox was bred in Clarina, Co. Limerick by Brendan Curtin.
