Topping the sale in Granard on Friday evening the 1st of June was Grange Lucky presented for sale by Pat McGuinness, Bettystown, Co. Meath. Lucky came to the ring with a Terminal index of €151 and a replacement index of €93. He is a second prize winning  December 2016 born son of Queenshead Altea and Grange Isobell (an Emerson daughter). Lucky was bred by Michael Connellan, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon. He was purchased by Derek Ray, Moate, Co. Westmeath for €3,750.

Lot 3. From the same class came Melwood Lazarus bred by Michael Hickey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Lazarus sold for €3,350. He has Cameos, Cloughhead Lord and Ferry in his sire stack. Born in September 2016, He has five star ratings in Terminal Index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Frank Mannion, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon purchased third prize winning Lazarus.

Lot 12. Ballyglunin, county Galway based Mary Costello purchased third prize winner Boherquill Magnum. Born in February 2017, Magnum is a son of Anecdote, his dam Boherquill Jewel has Haltcliffe Dancer and Wilodge Tonka in her lineage. With five star ratings in most traits, his breeder Paul Callanan, Lismacaffrey, Co. Westmeath accepted  a final bid of €2,750.

Lot 6. Local farmer Frances Walsh, Granard purchased 18 month old Quilty Limousins Leon for €2,650. Leon is a son of Wilodge Joskins and Thomastown Henrietta (an On-Dit daughter). He was bred by Martin McGannon, Ennis, Co. Clare. Leon has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. He was awarded fourth prize in his class.

lot 24. The second prize winning Ewdenvale Ivor son Castleshane Marve 1 sold for €2,300. Marve was bred in Moyatra, Co. Monaghan by Gerard Greenan. His dam, Castleshane Kara, has Marchermore Augustus and Farfelu in her sire stack. Twelve month old Marve was purchased by Brendan O’Donoghue, St. Margarets, Co. Dublin.

Lot 23. From the same yard came the third prize winning Castleshane Magnum. This yearling has Castleview Casino (Et), Mas Du Clo and Farfelu in his sire stack. Magnum was acquired by Cecil Warrington, Buttlersbridge, Co. Cavan for €2,200.

Lot 11. The Champion bull in Granard was Corlea Major Tom a January 2017 born son of Corlea Ice Cool and the Haltcliffe Dancer daughter Corlea Icare. Major Tom was bred by Thomas Connor, Kenagh, Co. Longford. He has five star ratings in Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. He was purchased by Ballinalee, Co. Longford based William McVitty for €2,150.

Lot 16. Local breeder Michael Brady, Granard sold his 13 month old Wilodge Cerberus bull, Copperdoor Manor, for €2,150.  Manor’sdam Copperdoor Frances has Milbrook Tanko and Navarin in her sire stack. Manor was acquired by Sean Martin, Glasson, Co. Westmeath.

Lot 19. At the same selling price was Clydagh Matt for Frank Philbin, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Matt has Haltcliffe Gunner, Haltcliffe Hercules and Espoir in his sire stack. He was purchased by John Mulligan, Creggs, Co. Galway.

Lot 21. Ballyjamesduff based Seamus Sheridan purchased Milan Masimo from Donal McKeon, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. Masimo is a son of Mas Du Clo and the Casimir daughter Milan Hazel. Thirteen month old Masimo won the first prize in his class. His selling price was €2,100.

Lot 18. Second prize winning Corlea Major found a new home at €2,050. Major has Kaprico Eravelle, Haltcliffe Dancer and Clegghill Upton in his sire stack. Born in April 2017 he was bred by Thomas Connor,  Kenagh, Co. Longford. P.J. Tully from Carrickaboy purchased Major.

The Reserve Champion bull was Woodview Lorcan, a powerful Carrowreagh Honduras son. His dam Killycroney Heron has Acajou and Faignant in her lineage. Lorcan was presented by his breeder David Abbott, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan. Seventeen month old Lorcan has five star ratings in almost every trait. He left the ring unsold having failed to meet his reserve.

Meelickaduff Marietta was awarded the Champion heifer. Marietta is a January 2017 born daughter of Ampertaine Foreman and Meelickaduff Cloe. She has a Terminal index value of €143 and a Replacement index value of €93. Marietta was bred in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon by Michael Hester. She left the ring unsold.

This was the last spring sale of 2018, the show was held at 5pm on Friday evening the 1st of June with the sale following at 7pm in Granard Farmers Mart in Longford. The average price of the bulls sold was €2509 with a clearance rate of 58%, this was a marginal decrease on last year’s selling price.

Auctioneer for the sale was Eamon Gaffney. Judging duties were undertaken by Society President Michael Gunn. Speaking after judging Michael said: “There was a nice display of quality Limousin cattle presented to me this evening. The top-end of all classes was of an excellent standard. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in running the show and sale here in Granard. Thanks to all purchasers, todays auctioneer Eamon and Philip Crowe for stewarding.”
