Powerful Irish bred by Philip Crowe, Lisenanagh, Ballinagh Co. Cavan is living up to his name with his offspring setting records in the UK.

Born in 2013, Irish is a son of Haltcliffe Dancer and Clonlara Vixen (ET), a Grahams Samson daughter. Vixen was purchased as a maiden heifer by Philip from her breeder Colin Hogg, Clonlara, Co. Clare. Vixen was a tremendous breeder, with her embryos in demand both in Ireland and in the UK.

Three of Vixex’s sons were exported to the UK, her daughter Powerful Hibernia by Bial was North Eastern Calf champion in 2012. Hibernia was sold to Bovi genetics becoming an integral member of their flushing team.

Philip knew Irish was a star from day one – even as a young calf Irish had extreme muscle, he was very eye-catching and possessed a super temperament. Irish carried 1 copy of the NT muscle gene and 1 copy of the Q muscle gene. Philip sold him at a year old in a private sale to a Scottish breeder.

Irish has now bred two Senior Champions in Carlisle and a Female Champion at the renowned Red Ladies sale.

To-date 15 sons that have being sold at auction in the UK have averaged £7,700 sterling with a top of £13,000. At the Multi-breed sale held in United Auctions Stirling Agricultural Centre on Monday May 7th, a Powerful Irish son set a new all-breeds centre record price of 12,000gns – the young bull Anside Magneto from Mr. & Mrs. Irvine, Braehead Farm, was tapped forward in the pre-sale show as Limousin Supreme Champion.

At the February sale in Borderway Mart, Carlisle the Overall Senior Champion Anside Mexican sold for 13,000gns. Mexican is also a son of Powerful Irish.

Irish’s daughters are also excelling. At the Royal Bath and West Show held between the 30th May and 2nd June, a Powerful Irish daughter Wilodge Larima, took the Reserve Breed Champion title for owners Nick and Lisa Hill. Along with her stablemates Larima also won the Interbreed Pairs, the Exhibitor Bred Interbreed Team of Three and the Interbreed group of Four Championships

Semen has been collected from this outstanding bull, he has been used throughout the UK.

Here at the Irish Limousin Cattle Soceity we would like to wish Philip continued success with his Powerful Limousin herd. Undoubtedly we will witness more triumphs from Powerful Irish.
