Milbrook Celine wins 21st National Limousin Show at Tullamore:
The 21st National Limousin Show took place at the National Livestock Show Tullamore on Sunday 8th August 2010. The standard of cattle and number of entries was excellent with over 130 Limousin cattle entered and 118 present on the day in the 32 classes. The Tullamore National Livestock Show proved to be an excellent venue with everyone having a busy but enjoyable day. The weather was lovely and large crowds were in attendance. All day large numbers of people viewed the Limousin cattle classes and visited the society marquee.
The judge on the day was Mr. Chris Pennie of the notable Sarkley herd based in Powys, Wales. Throughout his many years of breeding Limousin cattle Chris has sold many top quality animals in excess of 20,000 gns. This was Chris’s first visit to the Republic of Ireland along with his wife Charlotte and daughters Jessica and Rachel. Incidentally it was also Chris and Charlotte’s wedding anniversary on the same day. Mr. Pennie commented on the excellent standard of entries overall and in particular amongst the high number of heifer entries.
Mr. Arthur Malone of the Millview Herd, Castlewellan, Co. Down kindly agreed to judge the three All Ireland heifer classes for junior, intermediate and senior heifers which took place later on in the day. Arthur is a dedicated follower of Irish Limousin cattle and a regular spectator at Tullamore Show every year.
The Irish Limousin Cattle Society wishes to express our thanks to both of these men who gave up their valuable time to be with us for the day.
Competition was very competitive and keen all day with many very close calls. After much deliberation the superb heifer “Milbrook Celine” last years reserve champion was given the nod for Overall National Limousin Champion 2010. Celine is homebred heifer owned by Mr. William Smith, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. This heifer is no stranger to success having won the overall title at the National Livestock Show last year and the Reserve overall at the National Limousin Show. She also claimed the much coveted Irish Limousin Derby title in Clogher Valley in 2009. She is by Greensons Gigolo and out of the equally successful show cow, Millbrook Ulla. Earlier this year she was also crowned reserve female champion at the Royal Ulster Show, Balmoral.
The Reserve Champion went to another homebred heifer, “Roundhill Egiroflee” from Mr. Timothy Corridan, Fedamore, Co. Limerick. This young heifer is by Mas Du Clo out of an ET cow Roundhill Vache a daughter of Giroflee who is dam of the renowned AI sire Nenuphar. She was earlier crowned Overall Junior Female Champion of the show.
Taking the Overall Male Championship was “Bremore Domino” from the Connell Bros, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. This two year old bull is by Neuf out of a Drominanou Titan daughter, Bremore Lauren and was bred by Bobby Jones, Skerries, Co. Dublin.
Taking the reserve Male Championship spot was a French bred bull, Casimir from the Ardlea herd of Dan Tynan, Raheen, Co. Laois. This three and a half year old bull is by Unisson out of a Samson daughter, Urgence.
