The young heifer Ardlea Anable was crowned Overall Limousin Champion shortly after 3.30 p.m. last Sunday after a dazzling display of top quality Limousin cattle. The four hour marathon session of over 100 pedigree Limousin cattle was one of the main features at the National Livestock Show in Tullamore.
The judge John Penny of Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland described his choice of champion as a ‘very sweet heifer who will go on to make a great cow’. Anable earlier in the day as crowned National Junior Heifer Champion, followed by Female Champion & cumulating in Overall Limousin Champion. It was a milestone for the Ardlea herd of Dan Tynan, Mountrath, Co. Laois going one step further than in 2005 when they won Reserve Overall Limousin Champion. It was made all the more remarkable that Anable was on only her second ever outing to a show. This homebred heifer born on 1st April 2005 is out of one of the herd stock sires Lino and an imported dam Seguia.
The Reserve Limousin Champion went to the Male Champion Pacha from Donal Moloney, Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare. This powerful seven year old bull already has a super show record in both France & Ireland winning the Male Champion at the National Limousin Show in Ireland 2005. The Ardnacrusha herd of Donal Moloney had a memorable day scooping three first prizes and also won the pairs class. The pictures and results are shown below;
