In June 2010 a number of Council members along with the secretary traveled to France to inspect progeny of Sersia sires. In total seven herds were visited over two days, six pedigree and one herd that was being managed on a commercial basis producing beef at ten months of age.
Sires that impressed on the commercial unit were:
Usted, Uskadar and Tehix.
Tehix who is by Mas Du Clo and Espoir is combining good shape along with weight gain.
On the pedigree herds the following sires impressed:
On Dit a balanced bull with heavy beefy males. The females have volume and good maternal qualities. Crossed well on Mas Du Clo, Ionesco, Highlander Louxor
Urville is recommended for use on heifers as he is easy calving. Females are milky with good fertility. Progeny appeared to have good width but would not be a size improver. Being mated with Neuf ,Highlander, Tastevin, On Dit, Jeansonnet
Usse is an outcross with good maternal traits. Progeny appeared to have good width and muscling with reasonable size. Crossed well on Mas Du Clo, Meridien On Dit
Neuf is easy calving and producing progeny with good harmony. However needs to be crossed with animals that are a plus for milk ie Tastevin, Dauphin, Highlander, Eleazar
