Report 2009:

The South East Club had a very successful and eventful year in 2009. We held our AGM in February and the outgoing officers were re-elected as follows, Norman Stanley Chairman, Emer Byrne Secretary and Noel Brennan Treasurer.

Over the course of the year we held 3 meetings. Our guest speaker at our first meeting was Rose Goulding from Goulding Genetics who gave a very informative and interesting presentation. Our speaker at our second meeting was Paul Sykes and Richard Collins who discussed a number of topics. At our third meeting we held a general discussion.

One of the Social highlights of the year was our club trip to Scotland in August last. We visited seven of the top herds in the Scotland. The group were very impressed with the consistency, quality and docility of the cattle. The club would like to sincerely thank the host farms for their hospitality and a most enjoyable trip.

We held the club’s calf championship and the young member’s class at Tullow Agricultural show on 16th August. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to all the prizewinners, a special congratulation to one of the youngest participants Ciaran Byrne who claimed 1st prize on the day.

Again the South East club had a successful year on the commercial side, holding a pre-inspected commercial sale in Roscrea, which proved there is still a great demand for good quality cattle.

In relation to the herd competition we would like to congratulate our winners, 1st place in the Large herd was Dan Tynan Ardlea herd, 1st place in the Medium herd was John Kenny Carrefour herd and 1st place in the Small herd was Oliver Byrne Ballyquirke herd. We would also like to congratulate the winners of the special classes, Trevor Masterson for the Best heifer born in 2008, Frank Daly for the best bull born in 2008 and Dan Tynan for the Best group of calves.

Once again the Ploughling Championships were held in our club area. Our club would like to congratulate all the winners and exhibitors.

Finally on behalf of the South East Club I would like to thank everyone for their help during 2009 and wish all
breeders every success in 2010

Emer Byrne
Secretary South East Limousin Club
