The second Irish Limousin Cattle Society Premier sale was held on Monday 11th April in Roscrea mart Co Tipperary. This new additional sale saw a smaller number of animals entered in comparison to the previous March sale however a very steady trade resulted in a 88% clearance in the males with an average price of € 2882.
Breed secretary Paul Sykes stated “ even though we didn’t see any prices reaching the level of previous sales it was very reassuring to see the firm trade that existed from the beginning right through to the end of the sale. When you consider today’s trade along with the strong trade at recent multi breed sale where Limousin have topped most sales and a good clearance being reported on private sales the improved demand in the breed signals well for the future. However we must not become complacent and continue to provide what our markets require ie easy calving, conformation, good maternal ability, versatility and an ability to provide profit on a low cost basis”
Top price on the day of € 4400 was shared by two bulls, Roundhill Edge 1207 bred by Timothy Corridan Fedamore Co Limerick.an Acajou son by the dam Roundhill Bjoyeuse combining back breeding to Ultrabeau , Sauterelle and the maternal sire Otan. This powerful bull had a 5 star SBV of €174 and was in the top 20% of the breed for Weanling Export, Beef Carcass, Daughter Milk and Docility. With plenty of interest in this animal bidding was brisk and eventually Roundhill Edge was destined for well known Scottish breeder and regular purchaser of Irish Limousin cattle Mr Norman Cruickshank Cowford Farm, Leghorn , Lanarkshire, Scotland.
