Last Saturday 15th May saw the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s final spring sale held at Roscommon mart . With an entry of 60 bulls with some very good quality animals on offer, buyers had a good selection to choose from.
Top price of the day €3700 went to Gerry Walsh, Ballina for Crillaune Dakota who had earlier in the pre sale show been selected Male Champion by the judge Mr Declan Griffin , Doonbeg Co Clare. This Ronick Hawk son out of a Grahams Samson dam was bred by Pat Kenny Castlebar. Dakota has a five star suckler beef value along with a five star milk value and was purchased by Mary Gately , Curraghboy, Athlone.

Next highest price of €2700 was achieved by Patrick Mc Keon for the Reserve Male Champion Currane Darragh a son of Ronick Iceman and by an Imperial dam. Darragh heads up to Agharahan, Co Fermanagh to the herd of Mr PJ McGurn.

Two bulls were sold at €2400 the first being Mount Scott Edward, a son of Redstone Rossini from the Aheybridge herd of Michael Sexton selling to Patrick & Rose Farmhill , Laytown Co Meath.

The second bull selling at €2400 was Drumgooland Elmo an Ampertaine Brigadeer son bred by Jane Patterson Carrigallen Co Leitrim. Elmo was purchased by David Condon, Mitchelstown, Co Cork

In a small entry of heifers the top price of €2600 was achieved by the Champion Heifer Clew Bay Celia bred by Padraig Golden. This Ionesco heifer in calf to Milbrook Tanko was purchased by Michael Gethin Riverstown Co Sligo.

Aheybrige breeder Michael Sexton received € 2400 for Mount Scott Delta a Gamin heifer in calf to Neuf. Delta was purchased by PJ Condron, Cloverhill, Roscommon.

Pat Bruen received € 1950 for Carrowreagh Duchess a Grahams Samson heifer incalf to Requin. Duchess was purchased by Michael Kenny Ferbane Co Offaly.
The average price for bulls was €1865 with a 49% clearance.
Heifers had a 50% clearance with an average of €1950 up €493 on the average price with the corresponding sale last year.
