Throughout the year the club held 4 meetings, which were well attended. Two official sales were held in Roscommon and Athenry in spring, and an autumn sale in Carrick on Shannon. On the shows scene classes were supported well over the summer culminating in the North West calf finals at Ballinrobe show. This was a tremendous success with over 40 Limousin cattle entered, congratulations to all who attended in particular the prizewinners.
The club decided to hold a progeny exhibition in Castlerea mart and this also was well attended with over 80 cattle on display. Many thanks to all who helped out at the summer shows and the Castlerea exhibition.
A very enjoyable and informative trip to Northern Ireland was organised by Micheal Gunn to whom we would like to extend our gratitude.
The club hosted 3 crossbred sales this year, 2 weanling heifer sales at Headford and Ballinasloe and the annual crossbred heifer sale at Castlerea, which once again was a success with good prices for quality. Many thanks to the people who inspected the cattle for these sales and to the mart managers in particular Noel Moran and the staff of Castlerea mart who are always so accommodating.
Well done to all the people who participated in the herd’s competition and congratulations to the
winners. One of the highlights of the in our club was the achievement of Mark Barrett in qualifying for the Irish team to represent the Irish Limousin Cattle Society in the Anglo-Irish YMA finals in Moira. Well done to Mark and all the other young members who participated during the year.
