Another high clearance of bulls at the May pedigree bull sale held by Kilkenny Agricultural Society at Cillin Hill demonstrated the continued demand for Limousin stock bulls. 20 bulls sold out of 22 presented for sale, resulting in a clearance of 91%. The average price per lot sold was €2487.50.
Highest price of the sale went to Pat, Gearoid and Padraig Kennedy from Coolrain, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. Their October 2011 born ‘Coolrain Fred Mchawk’ was sold for €3,500 to Mr John Kennedy, Ballyconra, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny. This bull had lots of quality in his back pedigree with Ronick Hawk, Milbrook Lancelot and Geant and this shows in his 5 stars for Suckler Beef, along with plenty of stars for both beef and maternal traits and 5 stars for docility.
The next best price was €3,300 received by Mr. Pat Beirne, Kileighter, Kilcock, Co. Kildare for ‘Cornagher George’. Mr Laurence Keyes, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny purchased this March 2011 born Tatar B son, with 4 stars for Suckler Beef and Daughter Milk, and 5 for Weanling, Daughter Fertility, and Gestation Length.
Selling at €3,100 was ‘Barracks Frank’, presented by Mr Gerard Fenlon, Newtown, Borris, Co. Carlow. This August 2010 born bull with 3 stars for Suckler Beef is a son of Vision and was bought by Mr Derek Holden, Callan, Co. Kilkenny.
Pat, Gearoid and Padraig Kennedy from Coolrain, Portlaoise, Co. Laois again made an impression in the sales ring with another Molosky C Hawk son ‘Coolrain Faris Mchawk’. With 4 stars for Suckler Beef Value and 5 stars for docility, this bull went to Mr Eugene Dunphy, Dunhill, Co. Waterford for €3,000.
Mr Thomas Swaine, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, sold ‘Farmleigh Goliath’ to Mr James Hogan, Kilmanagh, Co. Kilkenny for €2,900. This bull had plenty of stars including 5 for Suckler Beef, Weanling, Carcass and Milk.
