Kilkenny April Multi-breed sale - Good demand sees excellent clearance for Limousin at April multi-breed sale

The second multi-breed Bull show and sale for 2017 hosted by Kilkenny Agricultural Society Ltd., took place at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny on Wednesday 19th April. Seven breeds were represented in a catalogue of 284 bulls. Judge for the Limousin classes was Mr. Michael Fox, while tasked with auctioneering was Denis Barrett. A very good clearance rate saw all but one of the Limousin bulls offered for sale not reaching his reserve, prices ranged from €1,750 to €4,300.

Leading the trade was multi-starred “Galbally Louis 1135” at €4,300. Louis was bred by renowned Wexford breeder Trevor Masterson, Enniscorthy. The homebred Galbally Indian is sire to Louis, Indian himself a son of Galbally Dantastic, a bull that has left an outstanding legacy in the Galbally herd. Edward Butler, Danesfort acquired this much admired 15 month old bull.

A Sympa son from Kilkenny breeder Oliver Byrne, Gowran, also breached the €4,000 mark. “Ballyquirke Kentucky Et” has five star ratings in Replacement index €93, Terminal index €140, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. His dam Ballyquirke Daffodil Et, has Grahams Samson and Genial in her lineage. Kentucky was purchased by Michael Tierney, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

From the same yard came the Emerson son “Ballyquirke Kojak”. Born in October 2015, Kojack has a five star Terminal index of €134 coupled with a four star Replacement index of €80. George Gibson, Mullingar purchased Kojack for €3,700 from Oliver Byrne.

The Reserve champion was a Newtown Hugo son “Farmleigh Kiana”. Newtown Hugo has Neuf and Cloughhead Lord in his pedigree. Boasting an array of five star ratings, Kiana was bred by Thomas Swaine, Enniscorthy. John Phelan, Castlewarren purchased Kiana for €3,500.

George Corrigan, Ballon, Co. Carlow acquired two bulls at this sale, his first acquisition was “Farmleigh Kriss” from Thomas Swaine. Kriss has Newtown Ironman Et, Milbrook Tanko and Neuf in his sire stack. €3,400 was the securing bid for multi-starrred Kriss.

“Clonagh Lucky Strike” a 14-month old with Otan, Mereside Favori and Ideal 23 in his pedigree sold for €3,300. Lucky Strike was bred by Garreth Behan, Ballyfin, Co. Laois. Seamus O’Keeffe, Coolcullen, Co. Carlow purchased Lucky Strike.

Seamus Byrne, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary accepted a selling price of €3,200 for October 2015 born “Carrig-a-Duff Karl”. This Roundhill Saturn son is out of a homebred Rocky dam Carrig-a-Duff Irene. Boasting five star ratings in many traits, Karl was acquired by Michael Sweeny, Johnstown.

A Castleview Gazelle son “Mineare Kalvin” came to the ring with five star ratings in all traits. Kalvin’s dam Mineare Endora has Ionesco and Imperial in her sire stack. Bred by Anthony Brennan, Castlecomer, Kalvin was snapped up by William O’Brien, Carrick-on-Suir for €3,000.

A final bid of €2,900 secured “Bremore Kieran” for Mary Holohan, Durrow, Co. Laois. Kieran has Mas Du Clo, Pompier and Disneyworld in his pedigree. Bred in Skerries, Co. Dublin by Bobby Jones, Kieran has five star ratings in many traits.

Three bulls sold for €2,700. First at this price was Anthony Brennan’s “Mineare Kulter”. Born in December 2015, Kulter has Castleview Gazelle, Litron and Grange Balerno in his lineage. Kulter was the second bull purchased by George Corrigan.

At the same price was “Beechmount Kamden” from Geraldine Collins, Callan. Kamden is by Mullary Foundation and out of the Wilodge Tonka daughter Milan Genette. He was purchased by Bernadette Walsh, Mooncoin for €2,700.

“Bremore K Mon” from Bobby Jones came to the ring with a five star Terminal index of €155 and a four star Replacement index of €90. K Mon is a son of the Bremore stock sire Hortensia and the Acajou daughter Bremore Flirt Et. Diarmuid O’Mahony, Cappoquin purchased 19 month old K Mon.

“Lisduff K 469” was purchased by Michael Dunphy, Butlerstown, Co. Waterford from John O’Heney, Emly, Co. Tipperary. K 469 is by Tomriland Ferry and out of Lisduff Daisy. K 469 has five star ratings in Terminal Index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. €2,650 was his selling price.

€2,600 was top call for “Ormonde Kolby” a Brooklands F0959 son. Kolby was bred by Kieran Murphy, Cuffsgrange. Kolby has four star ratings in both Terminal and Replacement Index’s. Kolby was purchased by Michael Ryan, Mullinavat.

The Chaumeil son “Beechmount Kent” sold for €2,500. Kent was bred by Geraldine Collins. He has Lino and Ibis in his back pedigree. He was purchased by G.P. Kelly, Stratford on Slaney, Co. Wicklow.

“Barracks Kris” an On-dit son was the first of three bulls to sell for €2,400. Kris’s dam Cloonagh Carol 3 has Milbrook Tanko and Dauphin in her lineage. Kris was acquired by Robert Forristal, Shanbogh from his breeder Ger Fenlon, Newtown Borris.

At the same selling price was “Lisduff Kevin” from John O’Heney. Kevin is a multi-starred Tomriland Ferry son. He carries five star Replacement and Terminal index values of €128. Edward Fanning purchased Kevin to run with his Thurles based herd.

“Dangan Largo” the youngest Limousin bull presented at this sale sold for €2,400. Fourteen month old Largo is a son of Roundhill Saturn – the herd sire to the Dangan herd of Michael O’Mahony, Thomastown. Largo was purchased by Douglas Ward, Castlecomer.

At on bid less (€2,350) was “Cahergaul Kieran” from James Fox. Kieran is an Elite Flag son. He has five star ratings in Terminal Index, Replacement Index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. Kieran was purchased by John O’Donovan, Kilworth, Co. Cork.

Three bulls including the Champion sold for €2,300. First at this price was “Carrig-a-Duff Kevin” from Seamus Byrne. Kevin has Roundhill Saturn, Meridien and Gaillard in his sire stack. He was acquired by Danny Foley, Graiguenamanagh.

Also at €2,300 was “Gorvagh Knockout” from Vincent Flynn, Co. Leitrim. Knockout is a son of Baileys Duncan and the Milbrook Tanko daughter Gorvagh Elanor. Michael McGrath, Kilmacthomas purchased Knockout.

The Limousin Champion at this sale was “Beechmount Kevin” from the herd of Geraldine Collins. Kevin has Dinmore Goldcrest, Sliabh Felim Duffer and Lino in his sire stack. Kevin was purchased by Johanna Harte, Piltown.
