The summer show circuit moved on to Harrogate and the Great Yorkshire Show with Limousin judging commencing on Tuesday 14th July. Competition in the Limousin lines was once again strong with many of the champion and placed animals from the Royal Show, held the week before, competing against entries from local breeders and beyond.
The scene was set with particular strength once again in the heifer classes which has been a feature of the Limousin summer classes throughout the year to date. At the end of the day however seniority prevailed with the 5-year-old bull Greenhill Viper securing a first time Great Yorkshire Show win for the recently established Dynamite herd of Cormack McDowall Partners, Sunnyside Farm, Billesden, Leicestershire. January 2004 born, Greenhill Viper is a son of the French AI sire Nenuphar and is out of the French cow Nana. Originally bred by John Greene, Co. Donegal, Greenhill Viper was first purchased in Carlisle in 2005 for 4500gns from then owner Archie MacGregor (Allanfauld) by David Cormack. In February 2008, Greenhill Viper was sold for 20,000gns at the Newstart herd dispersal sale being purchased by GA McDowall. A prolific show bull, Greenhill Viper has amongst his many honours previously stood Male Champion at both the Great Yorks and the Royal Show in 2008
