Quality & Value at Castleview and Roundhill Limousin Heifer Sale

The third sale from Roundhill and Castleview herds last Friday evening in front of a packed ring side at Roscrea mart saw a very strong trade with 50 lots of deep pedigreed Limousin females selling to average €2,640 and achieving a clearance of over 90%. Quality and value was in abundance as was demand from pedigree and commercial breeders with the top 9 lots who had the combination of pedigree, index and show appeal averaging €5,000 and many heifers with a high Replacement and Suckler Beef Value Index selling for between €1,500 and €2,000.

Topping the sale was Lot 24 Roundhill DGiroflee 1135 at €8,000.  Rated 5 star for Suckler Beef Value she is the complete package with a great pedigree and looks to boot.  Sired by Mas du Clo from a Lino daughter of Giroflee the dam of Nenuphar she is a full sister to Roundhill EGiroflee 1164,  junior champion and reserve overall at Tullamore show 2010.

Roundhill ELeny 1186 Lot 43 an 11 month old heifer was knocked down to Donal Moloney of the Ard na Crusha herd at €7,500, sired by Tistou from a Domino daughter of Leny she had a successful show season including  being place second at Tullamore show 2010. She boosts a Suckler Beef Value of €159 putting her in the top 1% of the breed, her full sister Lot 50 was purchased by Orla Curtin a young breeder from Clarina.

Another five star heifer, Roundhill DOndine 1119 in the top 5% of the breed was sold for €6000, she heads to Cumbria to join the Netherhall Herd of David & Maggie Kelly.  The Kellys enjoyed much success this year with their purchase from a previous sale Castleview Versace, whose sons made 8000 and 5500 in Carisle.

Roundhill DBelladone 1142 from the same family as Roundhill Vanya, Mas duClo X Gugusse X Ideal 23, fetched €5,400 and heads for Wexford to the herd of Thomas Swaine.

Anthony Sayers from Wales made a return trip to secure Castleview Dominique for €5100 after spotting her earlier this summer, a Samy X Mas du Clo X Geant from the renowned G7,  she boasts 5 star for Suckler Beef Value.

The accreditation of both herds for Johnes and tested free from BVD virus certainly appealed to the customers with many repeat customers from the previous two sales and a total of 14 heifers being exported to Northern Ireland and the UK.
