Cappamore Show stages 4th All Ireland Heifer and Bull Derby
A crowded ringside saw the 4th annual All Ireland Limousin Heifer and Bull Derby take place at Cappamore Show, Co. Limerick on Wednesday 18th August 2010. The All Ireland Derby is a cross border initiative between the Irish Limousin Cattle Society and the Northern Ireland Limousin Club. The Derby was first held in 2007 and has since been run successfully every year.
The Derby is a competition specifically for young bulls and heifers who qualified at relevant shows throughout the year. Qualifying shows this year included Roundfort, Charleville, Athlone and Clonmel in the South and Balmoral, Ballymena, Armagh, Omagh and Castlewellan in the North. The Derby is confined to bulls born on or after the 1st January 2009 and heifers born on or after 1st June 2008.
This event was kindly sponsored by Ulster Bank and Teemore Engineering. Teemore Engineering was established in 1974 and since then has built up a strong reputation as a leading manufacturer in livestock housing equipment. Ulster Banks continued support and interest in farming has been long known, without regular support and financial assistance events like this could not be undertaken.
Judge for the day was Mr Ron Cruickshank from South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Ron along with his wife Aileen runs the notable Kype Herd and has bred many top prices in Carlisle including Kype Vandanne sold of 13,000 gns in October 2005.
