The South East Clare Show located in picturesque Bridgetown in Co. Clare was the venue for the 2010 National  Irish Limousin  Young Members workshop hosted by the Clare Limousin Club.

In addition to the usual competitions, this time there was also a team event which consisted of teams of four representing the different club areas, teams consisted of four YMA members with one member having to be under 16 years of age.

The four highest scoring young members  would be representing  Irish Limousin  in the Anglo Irish YMA finals to be staged in conjunction with the 2010 Beef Expo in Kilkenny on 10th October.

The judges for the day were Mr. Ricky Barrett, Co. Cork and Mr. Richard O Beirne, Co. Galway, two of the mostly highly esteemed stockmen in Ireland. The day commenced with Mr. O Beirne giving a technical session on how to prepare, show and assess an animal.

The competition then started with the young members judging four males and four females. Stage two of the competition consisted of the competitors giving their reasons as to why their placings of these animals.

In this section Mr. Barrett and Mr. O Beirne were joined by one of the YMA co-ordinators Mr. James Wycherley Co Cork who  has a vast knowledge of YMA events and is an inspiration to the YMA organisation.

The final part of the competition involved each young member showing an animal in the show ring under the scrutiny of Mr. Barrett. Each young member had to show an animal that they were not familiar with prior to the show.

When the final section was finished fellow YMA co ordinator Mr Michael Gunn Co. Roscommon adjudicated the scores ably assisted by Anne Marie Hourigan.

The results were:

The standard at this event was very high and all of the 16 competitors were a credit to themselves, their parents and to the breed. We would like to thank all the parents and other supporters who travelled to this event.

We would also like to thank our two judges Mr. Barrett and Mr. O Beirne for both travelling long distances and being so generous with their time. Indeed both men were role models in the manner in which they displayed such  genuine intent on ensuring they could assist and educate the young members.

Likewise to our YMA co ordinators Mr. James Wycherley and Mr. Michael Gunn who organised this event and who are always trying to endeavor that this competition improves each year. These two men give many hours of their time and are the reason why the YMA continues to flourish. Likewise many thanks to Ann Marie Hourigan who assisted the co ordinators in all aspects of the event.

A special mention to all the exhibitors for providing the animals for both the stock judging and the handling events, the quality and temperament of animals on show were a credit to all involved.

We would also like to thank the Clare Limousin club for hosting the workshop

Finally on behalf of the Irish Limousin Cattle Society we would like to extend our gratitude to the South East Clare Show for their hospitality and for providing such excellent facilities  which contributed to this competition being a resounding success.
