Irish bred Interbreed and Overall Limousin Champion – Milbrook Celine

Irish bred Overall Limousin Male Champion – Bremore Domino

Irish bred Junior Limousin Champion and reserve Junior Interbreed Champion – Milbrook Florence

Irish Limousin had a truly memorable day at the 2011 Balmoral show.

Leading the way was Milbrook Celine, the November 2007 born cow from William & John Smith, Oldcastle, Co Meath, swept all before her when winning the Limousin Supreme Championship and the Individual Interbreed Championship.

Celine is a multi-award winning animal with a host of high profile titles including Championship wins at the National Livestock Show, Tullamore in 2009 and 2010; All-Ireland Derby Heifer Champion in 2009; Junior and then Senior Irish Female Champion in 2009 & 2010; and Reserve Female Champion at the RUAS last year.

A first calver, Milbrook Celine was shown with her Milbrook Derby sired heifer calf at foot, Milbrook Geline. The depth of Milbrook breeding in Celine is such that she is a remarkable six generations homebred! Her dam, Milbook Ulla had a resounding show career and was a previous female and reserve overall Limousin champion at Bamoral 2009 as well as Overall National Limousin champion 2009.

Commenting on his Champion, the judge Alistair Graham said; “This is a powerful young cow, very modern, and with all the attributes that you would look for in a Limousin female. She has outstanding fleshing ability, breed character, and tremendous locomotion. For a young cow with her first calf at foot she has kept her flesh well and is doing a really good calf. She had size, was very well balanced and was clean in her front and tail head. A really worthy Champion,”

This was a fitting achievement for the Milbrook herd of William & John Smith and indeed the entire Smith family. The Milbrook herd are celebrating 25 years of breeding Limousins this year.

This memorable day was not quite finished yet, in the afternoon Milbrook Florence won the Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion. .Florence herself had won 1st prizes at both the 2010 Irish National Limousin show and the Beef Expo as well as Irish Limousin Junior female of the year.

The Limousin classes were judged by Alistair Graham who runs the Tandagree herd, Madden Road, Tandragee, Co Antrim. Early in the day when Mr Graham was doing his first commentary of the day there was a poignant moment when many spectators thought of the great servant to Balmoral show and to the Limousin breed the late Mr Willie Wilson who will be greatly missed.

Irish breeders also featured successfully in many classes during the day:
